A little about Shier's Deli & Catering...

George and Kristen Shier opened Shier's Deli & Catering in Midland, Michigan in November 2014.

George is the chef and creative mind behind the eclectic menu at Shier's Deli. The menu is influenced by the spicy southwestern flavors he grew to love after spending over 10 years in Colorado, the hearty home style foods that both he and Kristen grew up with in Michigan, and his experience owning and operating a butcher shop in suburban Detroit.

George grew up in Midland, and graduated from Midland High School. He attended Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, graduating with a degree in Culinary Arts. In addition, he received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Northwood University.

George has over 30 years of experience in the food business, including several years working with Chef Michael Tuma at Cafe Edward and Justine's in Midland, Michigan, as well as several years spent working in the restaurant business in metro Detroit. He also owned and operated a full-service butcher shop in Livonia, Michigan.

In early 2012, while still in Colorado, George bought a lunch truck, and began selling his scratch-made, home style foods at various venues around metro Denver. George brought the lunch truck to Midland, and Shier's Artisan Foods opened for business in Midland in January 2013, setting up shop at the Midland Brewing Company. The craft beers at MBC pair perfectly with the foods served by Shier's Artisan Foods. Shier's Artisan Foods lunch truck was joined by a brand-new, fully mobile kitchen, allowing George to expand his menu and begin serving dinner at the Midland Brewing Company.

It was at the Midland Brewing Company that George met Cliff Dawson, the "bonafide Yooper" at the Deli. Cliff started working with George in the food trailer and joined George and Kristen at the Deli shortly after it launched. Cliff brings many years of restaurant experience with him and is an integral part of the Deli.
